From Ouaisné to La Haule: The Kismet Journey

A story of roots, rhythm, and reinvention.

Where It All Began

It started with sand underfoot, the smell of barbecue in the air, and a beat that travelled across the bay. From our little shack by the sea, Kismet Cabana was born – a place for locals and wanderers to gather, eat, laugh, dance, and sip a Rum Punch (or three).

Ouaisné Bay gave us everything – a backdrop of golden sunsets, salty breezes, the odd storm, and a community that grew as naturally as the herbs in our garden planters. From beach BBQs to Beats in the Bay, silent cinemas to Sunday sessions, Kismet Cabana was never just a café – it was a feeling.

We learnt to cook with the weather, laugh with the chaos, and serve food that brought people together. What began as a seaside dream became a movement  – colourful, soulful, and unapologetically Kismet.

The Evolution: From Beach Shack to Brand

As the seasons rolled on and obstacles like covid interfered with our survival, the tides started nudging us towards something new. Our food was finding its way beyond the bay – into weddings, corporate lunches, community events, and island festivals.

Private catering became our heartbeat, and before long, Kismet Cabana wasn’t just a beachside hangout – it was a full-fledged flavour family, taking the essence of Ouaisné wherever we went.

Leaving the beach was bittersweet. The last sunset at Ouaisné still hits us right in the feels. But as anyone who’s spent a season with us knows – we don’t sit still for long.

A New Chapter: The Pantry at La Haule

We swapped the sea view for soil and sunshine – and whilst Kismet Cabana is now purely private catering, our new location tucked away at La Haule Farm – the former home of Lucas Brothers – has transformed into an additional sister venture – The Pantry by Kismet Cabana.

It’s our evolution – a place where island-grown produce meets global inspiration. Think ready-to-heat dishes for your home oven, frozen feasts for when friends drop by, and jarred sauces and relishes made right here in our new kitchen. Every batch tells a story – of farmers, fishermen, and the flavours that connect us.

We’re proud to be working with incredible local heroes like Manor Farm, Three Oaks Vineries, Holme Field, and Ann Gort Farm – the beating heart of our seasonal menus. And as always, we’re keeping it sustainable with our Jersey Bean Pot recycling initiative – bringing local produce full circle, one jar at a time.

Gratitude: The Hands That Built It

The Pantry wouldn’t exist without the people who helped make it real. From the builders and sparkies who braved the dust, to our local artists, suppliers, and foodie friends who kept us fuelled and inspired – this space is a product of many hands (and many, many coffees).

We see you. We’re grateful. We made it – together.
